For Parents
WHAT PARENTS WANT TO KNOW
Choosing a mentor for your son is a big decision. Here are honest answers to the questions parents ask most often.
How do I know if my son needs a mentor?
Many young men benefit from another caring adult outside the home who listens, encourages, and models positive choices. If your son is navigating school, friendships, identity, or future decisions, a mentor can give him a steady, supportive voice in his corner.
Who are the mentors and how are they screened?
Our mentors are background-checked, interviewed, and trained adults from the community who share our values of ownership, commitment, leadership, and discipline. Safety is our first priority — every mentor completes our screening process before being matched with youth.
What do mentors and mentees do together?
Activities include life-skills workshops, fitness sessions, community service projects, trade and college exposure trips, entrepreneurship conversations, and one-on-one check-ins. Everything is designed to build confidence, character, and practical skills.
How often do they meet, and what is the time commitment?
Programming includes regular group meetings, service events, and exposure outings throughout the year. One-on-one mentoring time varies by match and family availability. We communicate schedules clearly and work with families to make participation possible.
Is there a cost to participate?
There is a $75 participation fee per young man. Scholarships and payment plans are available for families who need them — please reach out if cost is a barrier. Donations from supporters help cover program materials, trips, meals, and activities.
